DESERT SUN (PALM SPRINGS) -- “Throughout her career, Annette Bening has brought to the screen many memorable performances, including the four films for which she was nominated for an Academy Award: ‘American Beauty,’ ‘The Grifters,’ ‘The Kids Are All Right’ and ‘Being Julia,’” Festival Chairman Harold Matzner said. “Bening creates yet another memorable award-winning role portraying Dorothea, a free-spirited single mother raising her teenage son in Mike Mills’ upcoming film, ‘20th Century Women.’” Bening, a San Francisco State University graduate, received her first national acclaim with “The Grifters” in 1990. The next year, she co-starred in “Bugsy” with Warren Beatty. She married Beatty in 1992 and they have four children. Bening has received Best Actress nominations for “20th Century Women” from the Broadcast Film Critics Association, Golden Globes, Gotham Awards and Independent Film Spirit Awards.
