Alum Michael Thomas' Film 'Meat Rack' Gives Rare Look at 1960s Gay Movement

SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- First up is a 30-minute short, “Gay San Francisco,” a thought-to-be-lost documentary shot between 1965 and 1970, followed by Michael Thomas’ 1970 feature, “Meat Rack.” The latter, about a man struggling to keep a curb on his raging desires amidst the sexual freedoms of 1969 San Francisco, turned out to be Thomas’ only film. Then a 21-year-old SF State alum, he would later help found influential indie distributor Strand Releasing, which gave voice to many a LGBTQ film.
