Role of Acting Mayor Elevates London Breed's Prospects for Mayoral Candidacy in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- Jason McDaniel, a Political Science professor at San Francisco State University, said the acting mayor role really elevates Breed, who is positioning herself to be the first African American woman to hold San Francisco’s top office. Breed will likely inherit the “Willie Brown-Gavin Newsom-Ed Lee cross-racial coalition that wins citywide elections,” McDaniel said. Chiu might have soaked up some of that coalition vote if he had had the luxury of a two-year campaign.
