Memorials Announced for Professor Mabalon

STOCKTON RECORD -- Mabalon, who would have turned 46 today, died last Friday while vacationing with her husband and extended family on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. She was an author, a history professor at California State University, San Francisco, and a co-founder of Stockton’s Little Manila Foundation. Mabalon was snorkeling when she became ill last Friday, younger sister Darleen Mabalon said.

A community viewing will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Palms, 303 South California Street. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. the same day at St. George Church, 120 W. Fifth Street.

Mabalon’s funeral Mass will take place at St. George Church at 10 a.m. next Friday. A procession will follow immediately afterward to San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, 719 East Harding Way.

The San Joaquin Pride Center will honor Mabalon on August 25 by dedicating its March for Equality to her. The march will begin at 10 a.m. at the Pride Center, 115 North Sutter Street, and conclude at Weber Point Events Center, the site of the annual Pride Festival, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
