Refugee, Immigrant Women Share Stories through Artwork

Tuesday, April 23, 2019

GOLDEN GATE XPRESS -- “The event was put on by the Spanish department and Barbara Torres Baquedano, leader of El Costurero, a Germany-based art program for refugee women. Baquedano brought arpilleras, burlap works of art, to display at the event. The arpilleras were made by refugee women and illustrated their stories and struggles. The event also featured scholar and poet speakers discussing refugee and immigrant stories.

SF State Spanish Professor Ana Luengo invited Baquedano as part of her Spanish Seminar in Literary Movements or Periods class.”
