SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- McElhatton, an Oakland native educated at Fremont High School and San Francisco State University, had no aspirations to leave the Bay Area. Tokuda was the newcomer who fell in love with San Francisco at first sight.
When they were delivering bad news, it felt a little bit better, because their connection with the community was personal and earnest. And if it was good news, it always felt like we were celebrating together.
