Professor McDaniel: Buttigieg's Youth Appeals to San Francisco Voters

Wednesday, February 26, 2020

SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- While Buttigieg might not be as far to the left as Sanders or Warren, there are still plenty of store windows in San Francisco that have a sign for Buttigieg next to one for Chesa Boudin, the city’s very progressive newly elected district attorney, said Jason McDaniel, an associate professor of Political Science at San Francisco State University.

The 38-year-old Buttigieg strikes a chord with many of the young, college-educated residents of those districts “because in a lot of ways, he seems like them,” McDaniel said. And in a field filled with veteran politicians, most age 70 and older, “Buttigieg brings the prospect of change, the idea of being an outsider.”
