SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- Rachel Garcia, 35, and Thu Tran, 33, met as students at San Francisco State University and became partners in life, love and music. The Petaluma residents perform under the name The Singer and The Songwriter, and at the start of the shelter-in-place rules, they performed for people in their own homes from their car — a.k.a., the Songmobile.
People could sign up for a Songmobile visit and pay whatever amount they liked on Venmo, never coming into contact with the duo. Garcia came up with the idea after being heartbroken that their live shows were canceled.
“I was really missing seeing people’s faces and hearing their voices and seeing their physical mannerisms,” she said.
