BLUEPRINT, ABC RADIO NATIONAL (AUSTRALIA) -- From farmers markets to taco trucks, Alhambra to Compton, we take a journey through the sights, sounds and flavors of LA.

Guests include Felicia Angeja Viator, assistant professor in History, San Francisco State University, and author of “To Live and Defy in LA: How Gangsta Rap Changed America.” She discusses Toddy Tee’s song “Batter Ram,” based on a Los Angeles Police Department tactic to ram tanks into suspected drug homes.

“It’s vivid, and it’s terrifying in many ways,” Viator said, “Especially, you can imagine being a young kid in Compton in 1985, and witnessing this firsthand.”
