THE SPECIAL REPORT WITH AREVA MARTIN -- May-lee Chai is the award-winning author of 10 books including ”Useful Phrases for Immigrants.” She’s also a professor of Creative Writing at San Francisco State University.

“Because of the racist rhetoric of former President Donald Trump, we have been [dehumanized] continually in the media, in the highest platform in the entire world,” Chai said. “Even in the campaign in 2016, candidate Trump was spouting xenophobic rhetoric — hate speech against Mexicans and the nation of China. ‘China is raping us.’ Really, a sexualized disgusting term, implying that it is a threat, existential threat, to the United States.”
