Michael Jensen, an SF State staff member for the past 55 years, passed away on March 25. He was 78. At the time of his death, he was the longest serving staff member at SF State. Most recently, Jensen was both an administrative support coordinator for the College of Liberal and Creative Arts and an instructional support assistant for the Family, Interiors, Nutrition and Apparel Department.
In June 2017, the University honored Jensen with a plaque and certificate recognizing his dedication and years of service.
SF State hired Jensen in November 1965 when he was a Psychology major. He started as a technical assistant for 10 hours a week in the Psychology Department.
Family, Interiors, Nutrition and Apparel Chair Gus Vouchilas says Jensen was a great friend to the department.
“He had a long and rich history of serving the department with kindness, interest, humor and talent,” Vouchilas said. “Michael had diverse interests that he always shared with faculty and staff, and he was always interested in hearing about us. He was a tremendous photographer and showcased many of his favorite images in his office for staff to appreciate. He was a unique and caring individual, and we will greatly miss him.”
Jensen (B.A., Psychology, ’86; M.A., Counseling, ’90) had many friends on campus, but shared a special bond with colleagues in the Humanities Building mailroom, where he spent much of his workday and where his photography was featured on the walls.
