SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- Through September, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art presents “Continuous Clay: Trends and Innovations” an exhibition featuring nine Bay Area artists working in ceramics today: Brett Crawford, Shenny Cruces, Michelle Gregor, Jeannie Ichimura, Pancho Jiménez, Mark Messenger, Maria Paz, Tiffany Schmierer and Tiffany Tang. The show explores the range of practices, approaches and styles they bring to ceramics.

The work includes figural and abstract work and meditations on ceramic staples like vases. Among the surprises is an installation by Cruces with ceramic works like busts, animal figures and doll parts piled high on a sideboard giving the impression they could come crashing down at any moment (one assumes they won’t). The exhibition is curated by Jeff Downing, professor of Art and head of ceramics at San Francisco State University.
