Gretchen Head holds a Ph.D. in Arabic literature from University of Pennsylvania and has been a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Humanities and visiting assistant professor of comparative literature at University of California, Berkeley, where she teaches courses that widely address the incorporation of Arabic into new paradigms of world literature. Head is completing a monograph on space and belonging in Moroccan narrative in Arabic (15th – 20th centuries) and co-editing a volume on the city in premodern and modern Arabic literature. She has published articles and reviews in Alif: Journal of Comparative Poetics, Akhbar al-Adab, Arab Studies Journal, The Journal of Arabic Literature, Jadaliyya, Ezine, Portal 9, Women’s Studies Quarterly and others. Head has been a contributor to Words without Borders and is the translator of Mohamed Choukri’s Paul Bowles, the Recluse of Tangier (Telegram Books, 2008).
