Cinematographer Fred Goodich
Goodich served as cameraman in a number of important films made for Encyclopedia Britannica, and went on to a stellar career in Hollywood, on television, documentaries, feature films and commercials. He is cinematographer on films such as: G.I. Jesus, Surviving Eden, The Affair, Lay of the Land and For Love of the Game. According to the Los Angeles Times, his cinematography on Fear No Evil contains “sublimely poetic imagery.” His Board & Care won the 1980 Academy Award for Best Dramatic Short. He’s also an award-winning director of photography in commercials, having shot more than 900 of them, many for major clients. He also directed Cher’s music video Main Man, fashion videos for various designers and the short film Green-Eyed. He photographed, co-wrote and co-directed (with Gene Kearney) the long-form music video/feature documentary for A&M Records, Love It Or Leave It. Goodich is also an instructor at the American Film Institute, where he teaches Advanced Camera Technique and the Lighting Workshop and conducts the Cinematography Forum. This event is part of the Cinema Department’s fall speaker and master-class series. Cinema students and the Bay Area community will engage expert cinematographers in rigorous discourse.
