Writers on Writing: Summer Brenner
Brenner is the author of a dozen works of poetry and fiction, also including Ivy; Homeless in San Francisco, winner of the Children’s Literary Classics and Moonbeam Children’s Book awards; and Richmond Tales: Lost Secrets of the Iron Triangle, which received a Richmond Historic Preservation award. In 2013, the Richmond Rotary and East Bay Center for Performing Arts co-produced Lost Secrets of the Iron Triangle for the stage.
Brenner’s writings have appeared in dozens of anthologies and literary magazines. Performances of her work includeThe Missing Lover, a one-act play with staged readings, and the poetry and musical extravaganza Arundo. She has given scores of readings in the U.S., France and Japan.
The Creative Writing Department opens its Writers on Writing course to the public on Mondays this semester. Taught by Robert Glück, the course features faculty and visiting writers reading from their works and discussing their creative process.
