Boris and Natasha vs. Mr. Twister: The Cold War in Cartoons

In the Soviet Union, even children's cartoons were used as a propaganda tool to critique the West, while anti-communist propaganda in the U.S. returned the favor. This event features examples of Soviet cartoons design to demonstrate the moral bankruptcy of the Western capitalist system and examples of American cartoons, which poked fun at perceived Soviet values. The films will be examined in light of the current cooling of relations between the U.S. and Russia. The films will be accompanied by discussion and commentary by faculty members Krista Hanson, Svetlana Kristal and Andrei Tsygankov. Free.
