Professor Clavier on What the Islamists Attacked at Charlie Hebdo

Thursday, January 08, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- Sophie Clavier, a native of France, is associate professor and chair of the Department of International Relations at San Francisco State University. Her opinion piece discusses the January 7 deadly terror attack on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper staff in Paris.

“Politically, this slaughter will fuel the anti-immigrant rhetoric, often fraught with Islamophobia, that is growing in France as it is in all other Western Europe nations, thus increasing tensions and the perceived incompatibility between groups and further igniting violence,” Clavier writes. “The tragedy has also broader global implications, not only in terms of security, but in terms of freedom of speech and freedom of the press.”
