CHICO ENTERPRISE-RECORD -- The Graduates of Distinction Committee selected Jeff Carpenter, Kathy Leighton and Nancy Marquez-Suarez to be honored for “leading lives that remain true to the core values taught at their schools.” As the 2015 honorees, the trio will be celebrated at a reception on April 24 at Cap’s Oak Street Bar and Grill in Brentwood. Marquez-Suarez is being recognized for public service. A 2004 Freedom High grad, she graduated from San Francisco State with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and minor in Political Science. She also earned a Master of Arts in Public Administration. Marquez-Suarez was the lead community organizer for the Contra Costa Interfaith Supporting Community Organization, assisted in the reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Care Program and organized the Leadership Academy of Oakley Citizens. She is assistant to Oakley’s city manager.
