THE SALINAS CALIFORNIAN -- One of the persons interviewed for the film, San Francisco State University Professor Marc Dollinger, will speak and answer questions after the screening. Dollinger teaches Jewish studies, American Jewish history and modern Jewish history. He also is the author of the book, “California Jews.” “‘American Jerusalem,’” he said, “is a fascinating look at the history of San Francisco, formed during the Gold Rush. The Jewish immigrants arrived and had a great deal to do with the formation of the history (of San Francisco), and it’s sort of the story of immigration generally.” Dollinger continued: “It’s really about the building of the city and the destruction of the city (from the 1906 earthquake) and the rebuilding of the city, and the Jewish role in all of that.”
