Writers on Writing: Shirin Yim Bridges

Shirin Yim Bridges discusses her young-adult novel Njinga: The Warrior Queen. Her first book, Ruby's Wish, was named one of the Best Children's Books of 2002 by Publishers Weekly and won the Ezra Jack Keats awards for Best Writer and Best Illustrator in 2003. It is on several state reading lists, has been translated into seven languages and is in its 11th edition. Bridges' second book, The Umbrella Queen, was named among 2008's best Children's Books by Time/CNN and the Bank Street College of Education. Free.

The Creative Writing Department opens its Writers on Writing course to the public every Monday evening of the semester. Taught by Professor Camille Dungy, the course features faculty and visiting writers reading from their works and discussing their creative process.
