Writers on Writing: Ruth Ellen Kocher

Poet Ruth Ellen Kocher discusses her collection /domina Un/blued. She won the Naomi Long Madgett Poetry Award for her first book of poems, Desdemona's Fire." Her second volume, When the Moon Knows You're Wandering, received the Green Rose Prize in Poetry. Her most recent collection, One Girl Babylon, called "tender, tough poems" by Al Young, was published by New Issues Press in 2003. Kocher's poems and essays have appeared in numerous journals, including The Missouri Review, She’r (in Iranian translation), Black Arts Quarterly, Denver Quarterly, Prairie Schooner, Poet Lore and Crab Orchard Review. She is a contributor to numerous anthologies including SF State Professor Camille Dungy's Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry. Kocher has been a fellow at the Bucknell Seminar, Cave Canem and Yaddo, and teaches in the Master of Fine Arts program at University of Colorado, Boulder. Free.

The Creative Writing Department opens its Writers on Writing course to the public every Monday evening of the semester. Taught by Professor Camille Dungy, the course features faculty and visiting writers reading from their works and discussing their creative process.
