Writers on Writing: Michael Warr

Poet Michael Warr discusses his collection The Armageddon of Funk. Warr's literary awards include a Gwendolyn Brooks Significant Illinois Poets Award, National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowship for Poetry, Ragdale Foundation U.S.-Africa Fellowship and Beat Museum Poet of the Month. The Illinois Library Association honored his first book of poems, We Are All The Black Boy. He is a co-editor of Power Lines: A Decade of Poetry From Chicago's Guild Complex. Free.

Warr’s poems are included in many anthologies including The Spoken Word Revolution: Slam, Hip-hop and the Poetry of a New Generation and The Spoken Word Revolution Redux, Unsettling America: Race and Ethnicity in Contemporary American Poetry. His digital photography-poetry performance, Poetic Aperture—An African American Interprets Africa, based on his poetry and original images created as a photojournalist in Ethiopia and Mali, debuted at Chicago’s The Field Museum.

The Creative Writing Department opens its Writers on Writing course to the public every Monday evening of the semester. Taught by Professor Camille Dungy, the course features faculty and visiting writers reading from their works and discussing their creative process.
