Writers on Writing: T. Geronimo Johnson

T. Geronimo Johnson discusses his novel Hold It 'Till It Hurts. Born in New Orleans, Johnson received his Master of Fine Arts from the Writers' Workshop and has taught writing and held Stegner and Iowa Arts fellowships. He has been a visiting writer at Western Michigan University and is the founding director of the University of California, Berkeley, Summer Creative Writing Program. Johnson's writing has appeared in Best New American Voices, the Indiana Review, LA Review and Illuminations, among others. He has worked on, at or in brokerages, kitchens, construction sites, phone rooms, education nonprofits, writing centers, summer camps, lady’s shoe stores, nightclubs, law firms, offset print shops and San Quentin. The Creative Writing Department opens its Writers on Writing course to the public every Monday evening of the semester. Taught by Professor Camille Dungy, the course features faculty and visiting writers reading from their works and discussing their creative process.
