Writers on Writing: Dodie Bellamy and Steven Seidenberg
The Creative Writing Department opens its Writers on Writing course to the public every Monday evening of the semester. Taught by Donna de la Perrière, the course features faculty and visiting writers reading from their works and discussing their creative process.
Dodie Bellamy
Bellamy is a novelist, poet, critic and cultural journalist. Her infamous epistolary vampire novel The Letters of Mina Harker was reprinted in 2004 by University of Wisconsin Press. Also in 2004, Suspect Thoughts printed Pink Steam, Bellamy’s collection of fiction, memoir and memoir-esque essays. She wrote an epistolary collaboration on AIDS with the late Sam D’Allesandro, Real. Time Out New York named her chapbook Barf Manifesto (Ugly Duckling) the Best Book Under 30 Pages for 2009. She has also received the San Francisco Bay Guardian Goldie Award for Literature. Bellamy’s essays and book reviews have appeared in the Chicago Review, Village Voice, San Francisco Chronicle, Bookforum, Out/Look, San Diego Reader, Nest and numerous small-press journals. She has taught creative writing at numerous colleges and universities including SF State. Bellamy and Kevin Killian have edited more than 150 issues of the literary/art zine Mirage #4/Period(ical).
Steven Seidenberg
Seidenberg is a San Francisco painter, photographer, sculptor and writer. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout the U.S. Seidenberg has published several poetry chapbooks, is founding editor of the experimental poetry journal pallaksch. pallaksch. and has been featured in numerous literary and academic journals. His new book, Itch, is published by RAWArT Press.
