This special event incorporates concerts and a seminar for ensembles of all ages, intensive coaching, public master classes, workshops and lessons led by the Alexander String Quartet. Founded in 2003 to honor the great violinist Yehudi Menuhin's association with San Francisco and SF State, this event advances the belief that music has the power to create understanding and transcend differences between people.

This feast of concerts, master classes and workshops featuring a world-class artist faculty, sensational emerging ensembles and talented students takes place in the beautiful acoustics of Knuth Hall.

Concerts on February 14–15 at 8pm will feature many of Schubert’s most beloved chamber works, including the String Quintet in C major. Master classes will be held the afternoons of February 15–16. The final gala concert, featuring performances of seminar participants and the announcement of the
Galante Prize, will take place Sunday, February 16, at 7pm. Some of the outstanding ensembles applying to join the seminar hail from as far afield as London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Glenn Gould School at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory and New York’s The Juilliard School.
