Los Angeles Guitar Quartet opens 2007—08 Morrison Artists Series on Sept. 16 with concert featuring Bach, Lizst, de Falla, as well as Celtic and Brazilian music
SAN FRANCISCO, August 13, 2007— The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet travels to Northern California for the first concert of the Morrison Artists Series’ 2007-08 season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, in the McKenna Theatre at San Francisco State University. Admission to Morrison Artists Series concerts is free.
Recognized as one of America’s premier instrumental ensembles, the LAGQ is one of the most charismatic groups performing today. The quartet is comprised of John Dearman, Matthew Greif, William Kanengiser and Scott Tennant: virtuosi who bring a new energy to the concert stage with their eclectic programs and dynamic musical interplay. Their critically acclaimed transcriptions of concert masterworks provide a fresh look at the music of the past, while their interpretations of works from the contemporary and world-music realms continually break new ground. The LAGQ has given recitals in many of the world’s top halls, including Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, Tokyo’s Opera City, and New York’s Alice Tully Hall and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. They have toured extensively in Europe and Asia, where they were featured at the Hong Kong, Singapore, and Manila International Arts Festivals.
LAGQ will perform the Overture to “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” by Giachino Rossini (arranged by John Dearman), Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 by J.S. Bach (arranged by J.F. Smith), “El Amor Brujo” by Manuel de Falla (arranged by William Kanengiser), “Imagens do Brazil” by Baden Powell (arranged by M. Tardelli), Celtic Fare, and Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt (arranged by Kanengiser and Jon Minei).

The Morrison Artists Series is presented at San Francisco State University’s College of Creative Arts, School of Music and Dance. Bringing Bay Area audiences the world’s finest chamber music since 1952, the Morrison Artists Series was created as part of the Morrison Chamber Music Center. Location and Parking
McKenna Theatre is located in the Creative Arts building on the San Francisco State University campus, 1600 Holloway Avenue (at 19th Avenue), San Francisco. Public parking is available in Lot 20 on the SF State campus, accessed from Lake Merced Boulevard between Winston Drive and Font Boulevard. Parking is $1 per hour with a $5 daily maximum.
