Oscar-Nominated Actress Annette Bening Lands SF State Honorary Degree

SAN FRANCISCO BUSINESS TIMES -- Four-time Oscar-nominated actress Annette Bening, poet, publisher and liberal activist Lawrence Ferlinghetti and lawyer and educator Peter Gabel will receive honorary degrees during graduation ceremonies May 22 from San Francisco State University. Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, a former San Francisco mayor and supervisor, will deliver the commencement address to more than 8,000 graduates at AT&T Park. Bening, a 1980 theatre arts graduate of San Francisco State, has been nominated for best supporting actress for 1990’s “The Grifters” and as best actress for 2000’s “American Beauty” as well as “Being Julia” (2004) and 2010’s “The Kids Are All Right.”
