Alum Marsha Blaker's Glass Sculptures Look Like Waves Frozen in Motion

VISUAL NEWS (IRVINE) -- Living near the seaside town of Santa Cruz, glass artists Marsha Blaker and Paul DeSomma are in touch with the beauty of crashing surf. The two frequently collaborate on projects which echo the forms of the marine environment and its many textures, including these absolutely stunning wave sculptures. They look just like water frozen in motion. It’s difficult to believe these objects were once molten glass. Now they perfectly capture the form of cool waves mid-crash, foam spraying upward as trapped bubbles rise through the translucent blue water. After Marsha attended San Francisco State and Paul went to Cornell, the two artists met at Washington’s famous Pilchuck Glass School in 1989 and married soon after. They now work out of their studio in Live Oak. They are well-known in the glass art community and open their showroom by appointment only.
