Professor Neely Discusses Ranked-Choice Voting in SF Supervisor Race

SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- Under San Francisco’s ranked-choice voting system, voters can rank the three candidates in the order they prefer. If none of the candidates collects a majority of the votes in the initial count, the third-place finisher, likely Wilma Pang, is eliminated, with all her votes going to the second choice on her ballots. “That could be a deciding factor” in a close race like this one, said Francis Neely, an associate professor of Political Science at San Francisco State University. “Every one of those voters could come her way.”
