Guitarist and versatile musician Paul Psarras has embraced a broad range of musical styles throughout his young career. Rooted by guitar and his Greek heritage, he has explored music from all over the world including, flamenco, classical guitar and baroque music. A recent graduate, with Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Psarras has studied with David Tanenbaum, Charles Ferguson, Marc Teicholz, Dusan Bogdanovic, Lawrence Ferrara, Sergio Assad and Richard Savino. Psarras was invited to the Grammy Awards for his role in the recording Kingdoms of Castille, with period music specialists El Mundo. He has also performed in the San Francisco Opera’s Merola program and with the San Francisco Symphony with conductor/composer John Adams in his nativity oratorio El Niño, including soprano Dawn Upshaw. As a member of the Pacific Guitar Ensemble, Psarras performed around the Bay Area featuring his composition Alkioni for oud and guitar ensemble. Psarras is also featured in Pacific Guitar Ensemble’s Begin and Tanenbaum’s world-premiere recording of acclaimed Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina’s solo guitar works.
