Barbara Hammer | HerProcess: Women Filmmakers from Script to Screen
Barbara Hammer
Hammer (M.A., English, ’63; M.A., Cinema, ’75) is a visual artist who primarily uses film and video in experimental, nonlinear time-based work. Her practice includes performance, installation and digital photography. Thematically, Hammer deconstructs a cinema that often objectifies or limits women and makes these invisible bodies and histories visible. As a lesbian artist, Hammer has found little existing representation, so she puts lesbian life on this blank screen, leaving a cultural record for future generations.
HerProcess
The School of Cinema’s spring screening and master-class series “HerProcess: Women Filmmakers from Script to Screen” showcases three innovative women who have changed filmmaking from in front of and behind the lens. It features public screenings of their groundbreaking films and private master classes with students.
