SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- It’s hard to imagine celebrities experience anything short of glamour, but before they were household names, many celebs attended Bay Area college and opted for a life of final exams and all-nighters.
Bay Area universities are chock-full of famous alumni that hold degrees from various schools including UC Berkeley, Stanford and San Francisco State.
Many of these distinguished alums majored in various subjects ranging from English to political science, but ended up going into careers far different than their majors.
Jeffrey Tambor: ('Arrested Development' actor). School: San Francisco State.
Major: Drama. Fun fact: Actor Jeffrey Tambor was recognized as 2009 Alumnus of the Year at San Francisco State University.
Danny Glover: (Actor and activist). School: SF State. Major: Political Science. Fun fact: Glover participated in the 1968 student-led strike in San Francisco State that led to the creation of the world's first College of Ethnic Studies, California State University.
Dana Carvey: (“Saturday Night Live” alum). School: San Francisco State. Major: Communications Arts. Fun fact: Carvey played President George H.W. Bush on “SNL” and he was even asked to perform at the White House per President Bush’s request.
Annette Bening: (“American Beauty” actress). School: San Francisco State. Major: Drama. Fun fact: Bening earned an honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts from San Francisco State.
