SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- Fromm grew up in Santa Clarita, a hot and smoggy place north of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County. The liquor stores and corner stores there are in strip malls, but she loved them just the same.
“In the L.A. area, a lot of the signage is over the top, and it’s everywhere,” she says. “I was always attracted to that aesthetic.”
But she didn’t figure that out until she’d gone to San Francisco State University to major in studio art. She was also drawn to a limited color palette using acrylic and house paint because it was faster and cheaper, two things that fit that student lifestyle.
