A People's Museum of LGBTQ History

A People's Museum of LGBTQ History is a living archive of hundreds of hand-drawn portraits and personal stories contributed by people across the United States and internationally, in collaboration with the art/design collective AK/OK (M. Wright and Kate Jarboe). This exhibition reminds us that LGBTQ history is made up of the countless individual histories of people we have known, including aunts, uncles, cousins, parents, children, friends, lovers, neighbors, coworkers, classmates, teachers and selves. This socially engaged artwork presents an homage to the LGBTQ people we collectively remember, yet whose stories have largely been untold. DesignSpace hours: Tuesdays - Fridays, 11am - 4pm. Reception: February 15, 5pm - 8pm. Workshop: February 14. Free.

Previous workshops have been held at the Bishopsgate Institute in London, Brooklyn Museum, Oakland Museum of California and Southern Exposure in San Francisco.

The DesignSpace, launched in 2016, provides a public forum for deeper engagement in design, its practices and discourses.
