SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- Joseph McBride, a film historian and professor at San Francisco State University, does much-needed work in showing how Lubitsch — the genius behind such comic masterpieces as Trouble in Paradise (1932), The Shop Around the Corner (1940) and To Be or Not to Be (1942) — was one of the consummate artists America was ever lucky enough to claim as her own.
