CSPAN, WASHINGTON JOURNAL -- San Francisco State University Professor Marc Stein discusses the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots and their impact on the LGBTQ movement.
“Bars were a congregation places where LGBT people could come together, socialize together, enjoy time together,” Stein says. “And in that sense some people argue that the bar was for the LGBT community what the church was for the African American community or what the factory was for the labor movement — the central space for gathering, becoming active, developing ideas about social justice.”
