DAILY MAIL (LONDON) -- Pilot and keen aerial photographer Jassen Todorov snapped the scene while flying over the area in Washington state in his 1976 Piper light aircraft.
The 45-year-old, who is also professor of Music at San Francisco State University, said: “I often fly and explore the world from above, and Mount St. Helens area in the state of Washington is very photogenic, but it is very surreal to picture this scene.
“The explosion in 1980 devastated hundreds of thousands of trees. Entire forests were devastated — these trees have been floating in the nearby lakes for the past 40 years.
“Today, it’s a popular spot for hikers — and you can see the tiny people on the rim.”
