Note
Across the globe, a countless number of students will graduate in a time of great uncertainty and anxiety. The friendships and kinships students have made in school, with each other and with faculty, have transitioned online, to Zoom classes and text chains. The comforts of hugging colleagues has been temporarily suspended, the absence of which may seem particularly heightened at a time when you want to celebrate your and your cohorts’ achievements.
The graduating class of San Francisco State University’s School of Art have much to be proud of. The works in the Senior Exhibition encompass a wide range of media; the collective works also show a great deal of sensitivity and care. Many of the works are personal in nature, taking inspiration from friends, family and loved ones. These artists also show a willingness to explore their own anxieties, fears, joys and desires. It has been a pleasure and privilege to preview the students’ works and to catch a glimpse of a new generation of thoughtful makers and thinkers.
