Philip Enguancho led the SF State Speech and Debate Team in its season-opening event on campus September 22 – September 24. The junior Communication Studies major won first place in two oral interpretation events. Both of his winning pieces reflect on Filipino identity in contemporary American life.

The College of Liberal & Creative Arts, Communication Studies Department and City College of San Francisco hosted the 12th annual Golden Gate Season Opener on campus. More than 600 students from 30 schools participated in the tournament’s 20-plus events. The Gators completed against Stanford University; UC Berkeley; University of Texas, Austin; University of Southern California; University of San Francisco; City College of San Francisco; and other universities and community colleges from four states.
The tournament displayed a range of methods of intense and in-depth evidence-based deliberation and dialogue, Forensics Director Teddy Albiniak says.
