The Program in Visual Impairments, Comic Studies & The Longmore Institute on Disability Present: Innovations in Accessible Comics for blind & low vision readers. A conversation with the prizewinners of the Accessible Comics Collective design competition! The focus of the event will be about reflecting on the process of developing these accessible comics, lessons learned, and opportunities for future innovations. The Paul K. Longmore Institute on Disability is proud to announce Emerge, a three-year initiative that will be made possible thanks to a generous $1 million grant from the Mellon Foundation as part of their new investment in disability studies. This generous support will allow the Longmore Institute to lead a month-long summer workshop for emerging Disability Studies scholar-activists, held three consecutive summers at San Francisco State University with an option for hybrid participation.

Overview

This year's Superfest features 20 films selected from a particularly competitive year of 267 submissions. This year's program includes local screenings as well as a streaming option via Eventive, expanded this year to four days to give you all the time you need to binge watch your way through them all!

Superfest Disability Film Festival is the longest running disability film festival in the world. Since it first debuted in a small Los Angeles showcase in 1970 it has become an eagerly anticipated international event—hosted by Paul K. Longmore Institute on Disability at San Francisco State.

We're excited to announce a new partnership with Alice Wong / The Disability Visibility Project with additional support from Sandy Ho / The Disability & Intersectionality Summit! This fall we are hosting a series of community conversations with writers and creatives to celebrate Alice Wong’s new memoir, Year of the Tiger. If you've been following Alice's journey lately, then you know why we are more committed than ever to make this series everything Alice dreamed it could be to show her our support!

Starting off the series is Tiger Talks #1: The Form of Memory. The event will feature Stephanie Foo, Esmé Weijun Wang, and Jonny Sun as moderator. ASL/CC will be provided, and we will be giving away books to 20 attendees!
