The intellectual and creative diversity of the College of Liberal & Creative Arts took the spotlight at the second annual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Showcase on May 9. Where else could you find nude drawings, linguistics research, musical theatre, curriculum proposals and analysis of voting trends under the same roof?
More than 100 students from 17 academic programs participated in the event, held at the Seven Hills Conference Center on campus.
Award winners
- Best in Showcase ($1,000): Emily Downey, Maxwell Goodwin, Johnathon Park, Olivia Vallejo, Skyler Ilenstine, “The Structure of Search Queries” (English Language and Literature Department)
- Best Faculty Mentor ($500): Tanya Augsburg, associate professor of Humanities and Creative Arts (School of Humanities & Liberal Studies)
- Best Presentation ($200): Indigo Waters, “Learning to Speak” (School of Cinema)
- Best Poster ($200): Aaron Conner, “Food for Thought: The Exchanges of Capital in a San Francisco Food Pantry” (Anthropology Department)
- Best Design or Visual Installation ($200): Oscar Rivas, “G-Wiz” (School of Design)
- Best Artistic Performance or Film ($200): Forrest Balman, “Mysterious Warehouse” (School of Music)
The Committee for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity coordinated the event. The committee is comprised of faculty members Mindi Golden, Laura Lisy-Wagner, Francis Neely, Celine Parreñas Shimizu, Gitanjali Shahani, Joshua Singer, Amy M. Skonieczny, Justin Tiwald and Laura Wayth as well as Associate Dean Troi Carleton and Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs Michael Scott.
The Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning and College of Liberal & Creative Arts sponsored the event.
