SF State Speech and Debate Team Wins Big at Annual Season-Opening Event

San Francisco State’s Speech and Debate Team won four events in its season-opening tournament on campus September 20 – September 22.

Notable results for SF State students who competed in the 11th annual Golden Gate Season Opener include:

  • Patrick Ford: first place, oral interpretation
  • Sabrina Ghidossi: first place, oral interpretation
  • Victoria Meuter-Montijo: first place, open dramatic interpretation
  • Dan Gabis: first place, novice impromptu
  • Zachary Waters and Victoria Meuter-Montijo: second place, duo interpretation
  • Zachary Waters: third place, open dramatic interpretation
  • Madison Ryan and Juan Campbell: third place, novice parliamentary debate
  • Raquel Robeson: third place, novice impromptu
  • Elicia Lock: finalist, program of oral interpretation

Twenty-three schools participated in the annual tournament, coming from the Bay Area, Central Valley, Southern California, Oregon and Nevada. It is the largest intercollegiate forensics tournament in the Bay Area, and it featured more than 15 categories of competition. City College of San Francisco served as co-host.

“We are so excited to be able to offer students an essential opportunity to showcase hours of research in a format that values critical thinking, applied communication skills, embodied performance and democratic deliberation,” Forensics Director Teddy Albiniak says.
